Shawn Hevener
District 16 Commander - Navy
Shawn Hevener is a retired United States Navy veteran who honorably served his country for 21 years. Throughout his career, he demonstrated exceptional dedication and versatility, serving in both naval aviation operations and in support of ground combat missions. His service included assignments that placed him alongside infantry forces, where he contributed directly to mission success in demanding and austere environments.
In 2011, while attached to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT), Shawn deployed in support of Operation New Dawn in Iraq. His experience in expeditionary and combat operations provided him with a unique perspective on the sacrifices made by service members across all branches of the Armed Forces.
As an Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handler), NEC 7011, he built a reputation for professionalism, leadership, and unwavering commitment to those with whom he served. Following his retirement from the Navy, Shawn continued his lifelong commitment to service through the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He currently is a member of VFW Post 3928 in Benicia, California, and has held leadership positions within VFW District 16 and currently the Commander. He is dedicated to strengthening the organization, mentoring future leaders, supporting veterans and their families, and preserving the values and traditions that unite America's veterans.
Shawn believes leadership is founded on service, integrity, and accountability, and he remains committed to ensuring that the legacy and sacrifices of America's veterans are never forgotten.
