Andrew "Skip" Miller enlisted in the Army in April 1967, beginning his military journey with induction at Fort Ord and subsequent basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Following this, he was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where he underwent rigorous Combat Medic training.

 

By September 1967, Miller was deployed to Vietnam, assigned to the 542nd Medical Company in Phu Than, where he served in an aid station and POW hospital. During his tour, Miller's unit was mobilized to Ben Hoa to support the 18th Surgical Hospital, tasked with setting up a Medical Unit Self Contained Transportable (MUST) field hospital in support of the 1st Infantry (Big Red One).

 

Subsequently, he was relocated to Chu Chi to aid the 25th Infantry at the 12th Field Hospital, where he was cross trained as a field X-ray technician. Miller's deployment continued through the intense "Tet" Offensive starting in January 1968.

 

In February 1968, he was reassigned to Quang Tri with the 18th Surgical Hospital to establish another MUST unit to provide crucial medical support during combat operations. His tour in Vietnam concluded in September 1968, following which he was initially slated to report to an Army hospital in Germany.

 

After a brief return home, Miller volunteered to return to Vietnam and rejoined his unit, serving until November 1969. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in a combat zone, along with the Army Good Conduct Medal, achieved the Rank of E-5 (SPC-5) Medical Specialist, and received an honorable discharge at the end of his enlistment.

 

Post-military, Miller embarked on an entrepreneurial path, founding a successful business that grew to over eight million in annual sales before his retirement. In retirement, he has dedicated himself to supporting veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families, as well as contributing to the community through his involvement with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and other charitable endeavors.
